The Weight of the World is on your Shoulders.

Even the word weight is heavy. It weighs heavy on our minds. It weighs heavy on belt buckles. It’s just a heavy word.

People spend hours weighing up their options. “How can I lose weight?” “How to lose weight FAST?” “Best ways to lose weight?”

We try to shed weight.

But, what steps should you take to lose that which has been weighing you down?

  1. And this is the most important…………….Shed your minds weight.

To achieve this you must find clarity. What is it you are trying to achieve? What are your goals? “I want to lose as much weight as possible” won’t cut it. Be precise, be achievable, be realistic.

Start by looking at where you are right now.

How much weight are you currently carrying? And I’m not talking about around your waist. Stress has a massive part to play in shedding weight. Stress, tired, fatigue, anxiety are all words that anchor you to that sofa.

So practice the motto “get my mind right” and everything else will be much easier.

  1. What is my motivation?

Once you have decided you are ready, write down your motivations. Keep them in your phone, because trust me, you will at some point need to be reminded of them.

“I am losing weight for my family.” “I am losing weight for my wedding.” “I am losing weight for my holiday”

Are all common reasons to lose weight.

Get them in big letters in your phone, use them to keep you in the correct lane.

It isn’t only meals that take prep when trying to lose weight. Mind prep will be your best friend and worst enemy on this journey.

Superbowl weekend, time to disembark the wagon!

Its Superbowl weekend! Congratulations to the Chiefs and the 49ers! Its been a tough season!

But the fight won’t only be on the gridiron in Miami. Households across the globe will face its own struggles!

Snacks while Dieting?

As the calendar turns over to February the “new year new me” tribe are in full swing. The first gym payment is due soon, and you are loving your 25th meat and broccoli meal of the year…………

But the Superbowl is here……………

Full slabs of Ribs

Unlimited Wings

Nachos and Dip

Pitchers of Beer

The temptation is thrust into your lap. The little pot bellied devil is on your shoulder telling you “Come on, it’s the Superbowl”

But there is help to hand. Google has a long list of healthy snacks you can make “quick and simple” to enjoy while watching the game.

Now I need to practice what I preach. Can I promise that I wont be wiping buffalo sauce off my chin by the time the 2nd quarter starts. No I can not. But can I say to myself “Ive worked hard for this?” Yes I most definitely can.

Your inner voice will tell you. The guilt is real, but only guilty people have done something wrong.

Never put the wrong fuel in your car.

Hands up if you have put the wrong fuel in your car. The moment of realisation and then the sinking feeling of panic.

Now let us look at your body is your engine. You would never put diesel in a petrol engine and vice versa, so why do you put the wrong fuel into your body?

What are the symptoms linked to incorrect fuel in a car?

Loss of engine power: either the engine going into limp mode, or just lacking revs.

Increased emissions: basically a lot of black or white smoke coming from the exhaust.

Difficulty starting: especially once the engine has had a chance to cool down.

Now lets read it as putting the wrong fuel into your body

Loss of energy; not functioning properly, lacking in energy

Increased gut emissions (a polite way of putting it)

Difficulty in getting going

What is the right fuel?

We know that everybody is unique. It makes the human being so special. This extends to the fuel you put in your body. Superfoods like avocado, blueberries and beetroot are lauded in the media as “super healthy!” But healthy to who? Me and you? But me and you are different. How I digest avocado is completely different to how you digest avocado.

Before fuelling your body for optimisation do your research. Treat your body like a Ferrari! And the only Ferrari you will ever own!

Weight Loss – Exercise or Diet? – the great debate

Now, I am not going to preach to you about what is better. Trust me when I say this, I don’t know. The thing that I am intrigued about is why there are so many hot takes out there.

People seem to be vociferous about their opinion. One toned, slim, instagrammer tells us “lose weight by exercising” whereas your local slimming world rep will tell you “it’s all about diet”

Exercise or Diet what do we know?

Well I am here to tell you what I do know.

Processed food is bad for you – but you know this right?

High fat low nutrition is bad you for – I’m sure you know this too?

So, in my experience working with past clients, diet is the beginning. By diet I don’t mean atkins, or low carb I mean a balanced, low fat, high nutritious diet. Not only is this replenishing your body, but it is replenishing your mind.

Exercise or Diet for your mind.

You see your mind plays a major part in realising your goals. Nutrition has links to fatigue and lack of clairty. How many times a week do you hear your alarm blurring and you wake up feeling fully refreshed and reinvigorated? I’m guessing the answer is low – but with a balanced nutrition rich lifestyle this can be gained. This will then enable you to run head first into your training regime with less of the “I’m tired I’ll go tomorrow.” And in the words of the great Ronan Keating “tomorrow never comes.”

Replenish your mind to enable you to replenish your body

Fad Diets – why the negativity?

Atkins Diet, Paleo Diet, Keto Diet……………….

Diets can come in many forms and guises. From low carb diets to fat burners, people can become exasperated with the choices on offer. Before and after shots of peoples weight losses holding newspapers to confirm dates, are littered next to people’s stories of “failing” to maintain the diet plan. The wagon has had so many people fall off, someone should question when the MOT is due, surely?!

Diets are Unique

Diets are not a one size fits all, they are there to educate, improve and support you in your everyday lifestyle.

The issue with the “fad diet” is they are designed for maximum results over a short period of time. Stories of 10lb weight loss in a week are not conducive with a healthy lifestyle. Finding your body’s, and as importantly, your mind’s balance is the key to a long-lasting weight management programme.

The next time you research the next fashionable weight loss programme ask yourself these questions;

  • Can I maintain this for 6 months?
  • What are my aims?
  • Do I feel supported?

Don’t pressure yourself. Remember diet doesn’t have to mean weight loss, it can mean healthy lifestyle.
